1. Apple iPad 3

I’m sure a lot of apple enthusiast can’t wait to have one of these. Rumor has it that the iPad 3 will have a screen resolution that is 6 times higher than its predecessor, quad core processor, and an SD card slot for memory card expansion

2. Apple iPhone 5

According to rumors this new iPhone 5 will have a thinner and slimmer design, will allow wireless charging, and will come with an 8 MP camera with flash.

3. Apple HDTV

The Apple HDTV is said to be release by mid 2012. It will be a full-fledged, standalone high-definition television with an integrated voice-command system.

B Technologies was featured in the July edition of CRN magazine, a computer sales magazine covering the IT sales channel.  The article focussed on how “Speaking the right language” was key to us maintaining and growing our client base, and there were two key messages that stood out.  Below are some quotes from the article.

1. Check for any programs running in the background

Windows is normally set to automatically install updates and it could be currently running in the background. This could be the reason why your browsing speed suddenly became slow.

2. Move or Re-position Your Router or Computer

If you have a wireless connection, try to move or reposition your router or computer –whichever is easier for you. Your computer might not be getting a good signal and it’s affecting the internet speed.

3. Delete temporary internet files

As you keep using the internet, your computer will accumulate large amounts of temporary internet files — cookies and your browsing history. They are unnecessary and can cause your internet speed to become slower.

It is highly recommended that you run Windows Disk Cleanup, CCleaner or something equivalent to clear the recycle bin, temporary internet files and many others.

1. Get ready: Strengthen your computer’s defenses

New threats emerge hourly, and can come from anywhere—email, websites and removable media like USB keys and CDs. Up-to-date anti-virus software is essential for keeping your network safe from both known and unknown threats. Remember to keep your security components—including those on the following list—up to date.

• Firewalls.
• Antivirus protection.
• Spyware protection.
• Software updates.
• Email spam filters.

2. Download with caution: Think first. Click later.

With your computer’s defenses strengthened, the rest is up to you. Here’s what you can do to protect your computer.

Beware of fraudulent email messages. Don’t click links or open attachments unless you’re sure of the source. In pop-up messages or warnings, click the X (close box) instead of OK or Agree to get rid of the box.

• Only download from reputable sites. Be cautious about downloading from unknown sources and from sites containing objectionable material or too-good-to be-true offers.
• Install and use file-sharing programs cautiously. When you use file-sharing programs to trade music, video, or other files on the web, you make some of your files—or even your entire hard disk drive—available to others using similar software.
• Save files for safer downloads. If you’ve decided to download a file from the Internet, save the file first to your hard drive. Then, when you attempt to open the file, your antivirus software can check the file and delete it if it detects potentially damaging code. To do this, in the File Download dialog box, click the Save button instead of the Run or Open button.

3. Remove malicious software

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you may download a program you don’t want. If this happens to you, here are some ways to get rid of it:

• Run antispyware tools.

• Disable add-ons. Web browser add-ons can display things like toolbars and stock tickers but can also install spyware or other malicious software. In Internet Explorer, you can disable add-ons from the Tools menu. Click Manage Add-ons, select the one you want to disable, and then click Disable.

Due to the changing nature of potential attacks, preventing malicious software from damaging your computer takes continuous vigilance. However, by installing and updating protection tools and by using caution when you work, you can help minimize the risk.

1. Position your wireless router, modem router, or access point in a central location in your office or home.

If your wireless router, modem router, or access point is against an outside wall of your home, the signal will be weak on the other side of your home. If your router is on the first floor and your PC or laptop is on the second floor, place the router high on a shelf in the room where it is located.

2. Move the router off the floor and away from walls and metal objects (such as metal file cabinets)

Metal objects, walls, and floors will interfere with your router’s wireless signals. The closer your router is to these obstructions, the more severe the interference, and the weaker your connection will be.

3. Replace your router’s antenna

The antennas supplied with your router are designed to be omnidirectional, meaning that they broadcast in all directions around the router. If your router is near an outside wall, half of the wireless signals will be sent outside your home, and much of your router’s power will be wasted. If your router’s antenna is removable, you can upgrade to a high-gain antenna that focuses the wireless signals in only one direction and point it to the direction where you need the signal the most. Consider a Linksys high-gain antenna—they’re powerful and easy to install.

4. Replace your laptop’s wireless PC card-based network adapter(for laptops that do not have built-in wireless networking)

Replace your laptop’s PC card-based wireless network adapter with a USB wireless network adapter that uses an external antenna.  In particular, consider a Linksys Wireless-N or Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless-N USB network adapter. These add an external, high-gain antenna to your computer and can significantly extend your wireless range.

5. Add a wireless repeater

Wireless repeaters extend your wireless network range without requiring you to add any wiring. Just place the wireless repeater halfway between your wireless router, modem router, or access point and your computer. Check out the wireless-N repeaters from Linksys, Hawking Hi-Gain, ViewSonic, D-Link, and Buffalo Technology.

6. Change your wireless channel

Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels. Just as you’ll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Try changing your wireless router’s channel through your router’s configuration page to see if your signal strength improves.

To find your router configuration page, consult this quick reference table, which shows the default addresses for common router manufacturers. If the address is not listed here, read the documentation that came with your router, or visit the manufacturer’s webpage.

7. Reduce wireless interference

The most common wireless technology, 802.11g (wireless-G), operates at a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz (GHz). Many cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, garage door openers, and other wireless electronics also use this frequency. If you use these wireless devices in your home, your computer might not be able to “hear” your router over the noise coming from them.

If your network uses wireless-G, you can quiet the noise by avoiding wireless electronics that use the 2.4 GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones and other devices that use the 5.8 GHz or 900 megahertz (MHz) frequencies. Because 802.11n (wireless-N) operates at both 2.4 GHz and the less frequently used 5.0 GHz frequency, you may experience less interference on your network if you use this technology.

8. Update your firmware or your network adapter driver

Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements to their routers. Sometimes, these improvements increase performance. To get the latest firmware updates for your router, visit your router manufacturer’s website.

9. Pick equipment from a single vendor

Although a Linksys router will work with a D-Link network adapter, you often get better performance if you pick a router and network adapter from the same vendor.

10. Upgrade 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g devices to 802.11n

Although wireless-G (802.11g) may be the most common type of wireless network, wireless-N (802.11n) is at least twice as fast and it has better range and stability. Definitely choose wireless-N. Linksys Wireless-N routers, for example, are powerful, secure, and simple to set up.

2. Type cleanmgr then click OK.

3. Select the drive you want to clean up then click OK.

4. Disk Cleanup will calculate how much space you can save in the selected drive.

5. Select the files you want to be deleted then click OK.

6. A dialog box like the one below will pop up. Just click Delete Files.

• One third of the IT decision makers surveyed had no policy for physical security and about two thirds of employees surveyed claimed that their organisation wasn’t using any form of physical security to protect laptops and other equipment from theft.
• “IT decision makers need to make it a priority to educate their staff about the importance of keeping office hardware safe and secure — and make it as easy for them as possible, being tougher on the consequences if they don’t keep data and property safe. It’s also imperative that physical security solutions such as laptop locks are in place to keep property secure, even while in the office building.
• The study found that on average, 2.2 laptops were being lost or stolen from each organisation per year, with an average cost of $3354 per laptop.
• Only a quarter of employees said they would face repercussions if it were their fault that their laptop was lost or stolen, and 88 per cent said they were not concerned or only slightly concerned about theft in the workplace.
• Only 72 per cent of employees admitted to securing their laptops when they took them out of the office.
